Things I Wished I knew Before Joining Engineering
"Unlocking Success in Engineering: Key Tips for a Memorable and Impactful College Life"
A Brief Guideline on how to make your Engineering years the most Memorable and Influential years of your Life.
Engineering is one of the most popular fields in India, with over 2 million students enrolling each year. Some join out of genuine passion, others are drawn by the promise of lucrative salaries, and a few simply give in to peer pressure. Regardless of why you chose engineering, following these steps will ensure you make the most of your journey and never regret your decision.
1. Be Fearless
Fear is one of the main reasons why people fall behind. Whatever fear you may have, work on overcoming it.
- Fear of Public Speaking: Many students are afraid of speaking in front of others. Participate in college competitions, debates, or presentations to get over this fear.
- Fear of Social Interaction: If you're uncomfortable talking to others, just start with a simple "hello." Gradually, you'll become more comfortable and confident.
2. Surround Yourself with Smarter People
Your peers can shape your journey. Seek out friends who are intellectually curious, passionate about learning new things, and ambitious. Discuss topics like entrepreneurship, technology, and current affairs. Building friendships across genders is also important—normalize talking to everyone because the diversity of thought will help you grow.
3. Develop New Skills
While socializing is important, remember that your primary focus should be on developing valuable skills. Choose a skill, master it, and work on meaningful projects. Encourage your friends to do the same and create learning groups where you can all grow together. Collaborating with like-minded peers will enhance your learning and keep you motivated.
4. Experiment and Explore
These four years are a golden period for self-discovery and experimentation. Try out different things—whether it's taking up a hobby, learning a new technology, or exploring fields beyond your core subjects. This is your time to grow, learn, and discover your strengths. Remember, this phase of your life won't come again, so make the most of it.
That's all for now! I'll see you in the next blog. Until then, keep smiling and keep learning.
